With the use of sumptuous looking interiors which combines carefully organized antiques, vintage items and decorative ornaments with strong colors and patterns, one name stands out – Richard Mishaan.
He is one of the leading architectural and interior designers in the City of New York, and has made it to the top list of some influential lifestyle magazines, like Elle Décor and AD 100. He is also known to author books, and two of his latest works, “Modern Luxury” and “Artfully Modern”, published by the Monacelli Press at Random House, made success across the United States. He participated in this year’s Kip’s Bay Boys and Girls Club Decorator Show House, running until June 6th, where he showcased a grand salon and a library that possess a unique Richard Mishaan design.
He stated that his inspiration for the work he created was a room that has been collected over time – similar to the old families in the Italian cities of Venice or Florence, which has artisans who are covetous of each other’s workmanship, resulting to their purchase of silk and velvets and then layering them above with what they have. The priced items in the room have been purchased through the years, with the vision of assembling a life sized museum. Richard Mishaan personally chose what items must be included, and have felt a great level of diversity after he has seen the result of his hard work.
The unique Richard Mishaan design style used in the room consists of items that have originated from different parts of the globe, and then combining them ultimately to possess a different style of harmony.
According to him, it was like travelling through time and seeing everything in a single location, producing one memorable picture that would have a long lasting impact on someone’s life. Richard Mishaan stated that culture and travel is what informs the human’s mind and soul, and that design that is based on someone’s heritage can create a legacy that goes through styles or trends, creating something that is pure and timeless.
